Background
La Alpaca is a company, which imports clothes and accessories made of alpaca wool and -fur from South-America. The collection is designed by European designers from this totally organic and natural fiber. The clothes are extremely soft and hypoallergenic, so they are even suitable for people with very sensitive skin and many people with allergies.
The collection consists of clothes and accessories for both men and women, from socks and pashminas to overcoats. Items of interior design are included as well, for example fur rugs and pillow cases. Handicraft yarns with natural hues are also available in the collection.
Alpaca is a gregarious animal, which is part of the genus camelus, relative to the camels in other words. Alpacas live in South America, in the Andes mountains. It is one of the oldest known domestic animals. They are known to be tamed already 5000 years ago. Their living environment is very rough, 3000-5000 meters high up in the mountains it is very cold during the nights and quite hot when the sun shines during the days. To be able to live in these conditions, the alpaca has growed a very soft and thick fur to protect the animals from cold, humidity and also from the sun. The fur is long-haired, the 25-30 centimeter long hairs are hollow and that makes the fur extremely insulating.

Green Features
One grown alpaca gives 2-4 kilos of wool per year. There are over 22 natural hues of alpaca wool, black, white and different shades of grey and brown. Alpacas can be either monochromatic or multicolored. The wide variety of shades reduces the need to dye the wool and that reduces the amount of chemicals used to process the wool. Alpaca wool is free of lanolin and it isn’t hoarse like lamb wool and this enables most wool allergics to wear alpaca wool.
Alpacas graze freely in the mountainsides only the herdsmen watching over them. The animals are not mistreated or over produced in order to obtain the wool or fur. The wool of an alpaca is seven times more enduring than lamb wool, so La Alpacas’ classically designed products persevere time very well. This material doesn’t need washing often either, dustup is recommended as a regular way to keep the products fresh and clean. When a product made of alpaca wool really needs to be washed, the recommended detergent is shampoo meant for human hair because this fine fiber is closer to that than any other fiber.
